Fish, birds, and tree animals

Jon Kagstrom commented on Reddit that he would like to add more animals, such as fish, birds, and tree animals, to make the game seem more 'alive'.

But is this something we want in Minecraft?

Birds yes, tree animals yes. Fish I don't see how, because with how much water there is and how small fish would be. How many entities what that be? That'd be like 1 fish out of every 5 water blocks.
